INTERNATIONAL KEYNOTE (USA) – Thomas is a data scientist, venture capitalist and speaker. He developed MESE™, a quant based computing system to predict the survival or failure of start-ups and corporate growth efforts.
Whilst at Intel Thomas started using data science to guide growth investments. These methodologies were further developed at Harvard Business School alongside Professor Clayton Christensen, and then at venture capital firm WR Hambrecht Ventures, where Thurston has partnered with renowned investor William “Bill” Hambrecht. These efforts culminated in the Market Exaptation Simulation Engine (MESE)™. Today, WR Hambrecht Ventures is one of the top performing funds in Silicon Valley.
Since 2008 Fortune 500 organisations have been using MESE to guide their growth investments for new products, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate venture capital. MESE enables executives to build and manage corporate growth portfolios using specialised datasets, computer models and statistical tools.
